Keep Calm, a set on Flickr.
Keep Calm and Carry On was a poster produced by the British Government 1939 during the beginning of world war 2 intended to raise the morale of the British public in the event of invasion. Seeing only limited distribution, it was little known. The poster was rediscovered in 2000 and has been re-issued by a number of private sector companies, and used as the decorative theme for a range of other products. There are only two known surviving examples of the poster outside government archives
The High fashion design can currently be seen everywhere, and seems to represent the thoughts of the populous at time of government austerity measures. It is ubiquitous, across the social spectrum, being found everywhere from the National trust, or the Tate Gallery, to the High Street at stores, such as Primark. Not only are we seeing Union Jack Towels, often in distorted colours, but a fashion union jack pillows, and bunting.
We can be proud: Britain pulls together in true community spirit at a time of government cuts.
