Great legs and more.

Cycling works the legs - well we all know that.  After just three rides out, when I jump in the shower I can see a change in the shape of my legs, and nothing is more encouraging than that.  So if you want to get into shape, get the bike out of the shed, give it a quick once over and get out there.

They say that regular cycling helps you lose weight,  I guess it does, but the increased appatite and the temptation to stop at the cafe for cake when you feel famished is hard to over ride.  A two hour ride will burn well over a thousand calories, and if you are heavy like me, even more.   Include some  hills,  and you can eat cake, just not every day!  It's a fact if you cycle three times a week, you will get great legs.  The big health benefit however is the aerobic exercise that works your heart - (cardio), and improves metabolism.

I struggle with the hills, not that we have many hills in Thanet.   On the inclines, I dropped a few gear's and determined to keep going, so got my bum out of the saddle to pedal hard, I made it to the brow a few inclines, not real hills.. on the others I got at least ninety percent of the way up after massive effort to make at the breathless walk a lot shorter.

So out of the saddle cycling standing up, pushing myself, and just a few hours later with that tight feeling you get when you have worked-out hard, I can tell you that I have used the oblique muscles, thats somewhere under the fat on my waist.

The obiques feel sore, so they must have been used :-)

A friend has suggested the Divas on Wheels-hospice charity ride, in the summer, so the training after the Christmas break has begun.  It's good to have a target, something to aim for,  I'm going to have to step up the training. So fingers crossed the forecast rain, stays off.

Today was great cycling.  Even if I did carry Doris, my trusted bike through some thick mud!
